Software plays an integral role in scientific discovery and innovation and plays a major role in the National Science Foundation’s “Cyberinfrastructure Framework for 21st Century Science and Engineering”. Recognizing the importance of software the NSF created a new program entitled “Software Infrastructure for Sustained Innovation (SI2)” to transform innovations in research and education into sustained software resources that are an integral part of an overarching cyberinfrastructure.=0A=0AUS and international funding agencies and communities are invited and encouraged to participate in and contribute to a discussion covering opportunities, challenges, best practices and visions for building a sustainable software infrastructure for sustainability for scientific research.
