DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:ABSTRACT: Heterogeneous multi-core platforms provide a challenge for the applications used in the weather, climate and earth-system modeling community. These applications typically have relatively flat profiles, low use of optimized math libraries and a large community of developers. They have low computational intensity and require high memory bandwidth, however they have substantial parallelism and several models have been successfully ported to run on GPUs. =0A=0AThe purpose of the BOF is to report on the conclusions of a workshop titled “Programming weather, climate, and earth-system models on heterogeneous multi-core platforms” held September 7-8, 2011 at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Session leaders will discuss the conclusions from the technical sessions of the workshop including: (1) Programming Environments (2) Programming Tools, (3) Portability. The BOF is also intended to foster the evolving community of modelers who are using or preparing to use heterogeneous multi-core platforms for their weather, climate and earth-system models.
