DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:ABSTRACT: The central challenge for coming era of Exascale and Data Intensive Scientific Discovery will be the scale at which large computers operate. Universities and laboratory internships will increasingly be called upon to train a workforce capable of effectively utilizing such large-scale computers, yet today students rarely have access to clusters of more than a handful of computers. Today’s computer systems implementer needs experience with, repeatable control over, and permission to change large-scale computer software in order to innovate to meet the needs of the coming era of increasing scale. The topic of this panel is how best to improve student preparation for programming low-level systems infrastructure software in large scale computers. We will be making a 1000+ cluster available for this purpose and seek the communities input on how to maximize the impact of this facility (www.newmexicoconsortium.org/probe).
