Systems such as Charm++ have demonstrated performance advantage for such highly dynamic problems through runtime load balancing while overheads have limited strong scaling. Emerging multithreading software like Cilk, SWARM, and HPX are exhibiting early instances of further success compared to static task scheduled resource management. The proposed panel will explore and discuss the controversial adaptation of runtime systems as they relate to efficiency, scalability, and programmability for future multi/manycore and GPU based parallel systems.
