When viewing the Technical Program schedule, on the far righthand side
is a column labeled "PLANNER." Use this planner to build your own
schedule. Once you select an event and want to add it to your personal
schedule, just click on the calendar icon of your choice (outlook
calendar, ical calendar or google calendar) and that event will be
stored there. As you select events in this manner, you will have your
own schedule to guide you through the week.
You can also create your personal schedule on the SC11 app (Boopsie) on your smartphone. Simply select a session you want to attend and "add" it to your plan. Continue in this manner until you have created your own personal schedule. All your events will appear under "My Event Planner" on your smartphone.
SESSION: Software Infrastructure for Sustained Innovation
EVENT TYPE: Birds of a Feather
TIME: 12:15PM - 1:15PM
SESSION LEADER(S):Gabrielle Allen
ROOM:WSCC 206
ABSTRACT: This session invites the scientific research community, funding agencies and vendors to discuss the role of software in advancing computational and data-enabled science through research and education. Software plays an integral role in scientific discovery and innovation and plays a major role in the National Science Foundation’s “Cyberinfrastructure Framework for 21st Century Science and Engineering”. Recognizing the importance of software the NSF created a new program entitled “Software Infrastructure for Sustained Innovation (SI2)” to transform innovations in research and education into sustained software resources that are an integral part of an overarching cyberinfrastructure.
US and international funding agencies and communities are invited and encouraged to participate in and contribute to a discussion covering opportunities, challenges, best practices and visions for building a sustainable software infrastructure for sustainability for scientific research. In particular, NSF representatives will present their vision for future software institutes as long-term community-wide hubs of sustained software excellence.
